“iPad is not just for consumption but for creation.” Today, iPad is at the forefront of becoming the most innovative and dynamic tool in education. I see kids using iPad everywhere: in homes, schools, restaurants to watch videos, play games and for social media. All these are consumption use of iPad, but I feel it can be innovatively used to explore creativity. It can enable students to create and share digital content and media focusing on art and cross-curricular learning. Students can explore drawing and painting, digital photography, digital storytelling, animation, graphic design. With this goal we aim at spreading creativity with our knowledge in this domain.

It's not too far to call iPad “canvas of the future”. In 2007, Apple launched iphone with touch-screen technology that was so instinctive that everyone got hooked to it. Since then several apps flooded the ever-growing app store. An app called Brushes was one of the first to hit the app-store focusing on drawing and painting on the iphone touch-screen. It allowed fingerpaintings on the iPhone in a very simple and intuitive way. However due to small screen size and limited number of drawing apps, this medium of art could not get much attention.
On April 2010, Apple launched first iPad which gave new breathing air to this form of art. Right form factor and same amazing touch technology turned iPad to be perfect painting tool for Artists. iPad has met with immediate approval from casual fingerpainters to professional artists. Artists are now rapidly learning ways to apply their traditional painting skills to this new digital canvas.
There are some companies who specialize in products for Digital Art creation. Wacom is one of them and is widely used by illustrators and digital artist around the world. However it’s only limited to professional artist mostly because it needs to be used in conjunction with a computer running a professional graphics software. On the other hand an iPad is conveniently portable and provides plethora of in-expensive apps to create art work. You really don’t need any expensive tools to get started with iPad paintings.
Our goal is to educate about simple digital techniques that can be applied with traditional painting skills to create beautiful piece of work on iPad/Tablet. Understanding the lack of ‘pressure sensitivity’ on iPad and how this limitation can be overcome by controlling opacity is discussed. Basic technique of creating a painting using layers is covered using various tools available in today’s painting apps.
We also teach "animation" creation on iPad. No programming knowledge or computer skills is needed. Your imagination can be converted into animation just using simple apps :)
